March comes in like a fierce bitch, goes out like a lamb

Oh sweet spring. Was it not just last week that I was complaining about the frigid cold? Yeah, it definitely was. Let’s be real for a sec: everyone (people from Québec) says that Montreal is a great city to spend the winter in because like, I don’t really know why, actually. Winter festivals? Hockey? Blizzards? Ice? Air so cold it makes your eyes water? I guess if you like all of these things then you will LOVE winter in Montreal. If you’re the kind of person who enjoys being able to go outside without piling on about four layers, you would probably be pretty damn pleased with the weather situation in Montreal this week. I know it was snowing like a fierce bitch about six days ago but now I’m starting to think that’s all ancient history. That’s right ladies and gents: I hereby declare winter in Montreal OVER.

Yesterday was the first day of the rest of my life. Meaning the first day of 2012 that I didn’t wake up and want to crawl deep down under my covers and hibernate until spring. YESTERDAY WAS SPRING. Not technically, I guess, but it was about 55 degrees F (celsius about 12 or 13, I believe) and sunny and everything was right with the world. I walked around downtown wearing only a light jacket, ate froyo, and even smiled gleefully at the student strikers who usually make me want to rip my own head off. It was a good day, to say the least. And guess what?! This weekend it’s going to be even warmer. In case you don’t believe me (because at this point, I’m not even sure I believe me…is this real life?!) here’s some pics to prove just how pleasant the weather actually was.

Bright sun, blue skies and (almost) no snow in sight. Happiness is the first nice day after the coldest winter of your life.
